1. How to Change Your Life by Reevaluating Your Values
Priorities and Values
How to Change Your Life by Reevaluating Your Values
© 2002 Roger Haeske
I believe our priorities in life are very important. They
decide what we end up doing and getting in life.
Our differences in priorities are what make us different.
One of my highest priorities has always been to be healthy.
Ever since I was a child, I valued my health. It was a high
priority for me not to smoke or do drugs.
I never wanted to smoke because I knew it would make me
less of an athlete. I never understood why any athlete
would even consider smoking.
However, maybe they believed at the time it would make
them cool or maybe help them attract members of the
opposite sex. But, in my mind, those are very poor reasons
because I value my heath over artificial methods of raising
one's self-esteem. Why are people willing to risk their
life and health for the good opinion of other unhealthy
people?
So many people fall into this trap. When I see someone
smoking, I know they have very different priorities than I
do. I hate cigarettes. I also tend not to associate with
people who smoke. I want to be around people who are into
clean living and people who don't fall for peer-pressure.
Another very important value of mine is being fit and
thin. This ties in with my emphasis on health. I'll bet you
that my values are very different from someone who is
overweight. I'm quite sure that if they had my values then
they would be thin as well.
This is the main point of this article. You can change
your life by changing or shuffling your values a bit. If
you want to experience weight loss, manage your time
better, or learn speed-reading, it has everything to do
with your values.
If I were to put on two or three extra pounds of fat, I
would start getting worried. I'd immediately form a plan to
get rid of that fat. Luckily, I've only had to take action
in this way a few times. But I never let those extra pounds
get out of hand.
I think many people who are overweight may not take any
action on their weight problems until they are 50 or more
pounds overweight. Maybe they think it is normal to put on
pounds as the years go by. Maybe they are just joining the
crowd to be like almost everyone else these days.
I do feel that people have legitimate problems maintaining
a healthy weight. For some it is easier than others. I
think that most people who get overweight also feel like
they can't control themselves.
We all have our problems in life. For some people it is a
weight issue. For others it's a self-esteem issue.
Therefore, I'm not putting down people who are overweight.
We all have our problems. This is what Superbeing.com is
all about. It's about helping you overcome your life issues
and being the best you can be.
If more people only new about the Raw Food Diet. Go to
http://www.superbeing.com/awesometechnique to get my free
report on how to do the raw diet successfully.
With this diet, I eat as much as I want and I don't have
to worry about my weight at all. I can even eat a 70% fat
diet, eat till I'm stuffed and still be thin.
I am just amazed at what I see every day. I'd say 75% of
the people I see are overweight here in New Jersey (USA).
An interesting thing I found is that the people in NYC are
much thinner than in NJ. They are maybe only 40%
overweight. They must have higher priorities when it comes
to putting on extra weight. People in different areas have
different values and it shows.
A great exercise is to make a list of your values in life
and then prioritize them. You may find that, due to
inertia, you aren't even following your own list of
priorities or you may want to change the order of some of
your values.
Here's a sample list: (I'm not suggesting that this should
be your values.)
1. Family
2. Business Success
3. Happiness
4. Freedom
5. Health
6. Friends
I see a little problem with this list of values. You may
see some problems as well. If you rank business success
higher than happiness, you'll be willing to have a job or
career you hate to make yourself a success in business.
Of course, for many people that wouldn't be a success at
all. Life is a journey and you should enjoy the ride as
much as possible. This person might also work in a job
where people smoke because he values business success
higher than his health.
Here is a possible different ordering of priorities. You
may find problems with this order in your own life.
Nevertheless, it just shows you how your values and how you
prioritize them changes what you do in life.
1. Happiness
2. Health
3. Freedom
4. Business Success
5. Family
6. Friends
People who derive lots of happiness from their families
and friends might order this list quite differently. Make
your own list of up to 10 values, or more if you like. Then
order them and play around with them. Are you actually
living within your own value system or have you slipped? It
seems strange but you can definitely shift your values to
get more of what you want out of life.
Keep in mind that you shouldn't have to struggle to live
within your values. They are who you are. However, you may
want to change some of your values if your current values
aren't serving you.

2. My most productive day ever
What I did that resulted in my most productive day ever.
Last week I had my most productive day ever. It all
started when I was going to a performance of Beethoven's
Ninth Symphony, by the great conductor Lorin Maazel in New
York City. I had some extra time before the performance so
I continued reading from a book I just bought, The Time
Trap by Alec Mackenzie. To find out more about this great
book click here:
http://www.superbeing.com/time.htm
I'm not quite sure how I found out about this book but I'm
grateful I did. Anyway, I read the reviews of the book on
Amazon.com and they were amazing. Everyone said it was
hands down the best book on Time Management, an all time
classic.
In the past I've read several books on time management,
listened to audiotape programs and bought different
organizers so that I'd organize myself better. This book
covers all of that but it also details how to actually
**motivate** us to manage our time better.
This book originally came out in 1972 and is updated for
the information age in 1997. The information it contains is
what he teaches in his seminars and is very detailed. You
get the equivalent of a weeklong seminar by simply reading
and acting on the ideas in the book.
The other day I got this glossy sales letter and
advertisement from Tony Robbins in the mail. It was for
his, Time of Your Life Program. He was asking $200 for his
program and it didn't even include the organizer that goes
with his time management system. Then I looked at my $15,
Time Trap book and realized I had the same or better value
in this program. Everything Tony promised was in this book.
The Time Trap, is written by someone who had been teaching
time management for the last 30 years. Tony Robbins is a
great personal development teacher but I feel I'd rather
learn time management from the leading expert in the field.
From someone who has focused on that alone.
While reading the opening chapters, I was glad to find out
that I was already doing the most important element time
management -- I actually had a written plan for the
workday. Alec says that having a written plan is one of the
most important elements of time management. My productivity
has gone way up since I started doing that on a regular
basis.
In chapter four Alec shows you how to do a time log. I
thought it was interesting and felt I'd move on with my
reading before I did anything. However, for some reason the
next morning I decided to do the Time Log.
The Time Log is simply a way to keep track of what you are
doing. You don't have to work on your time management. You
just write down everything you are doing. Surprisingly it
didn't take that long to do the log.
If you answer the phone, you have to write it down. If
someone interrupts you, you have to write it down. If you
are daydreaming, you have to log it as well. There is no
judgment here because I was the only person who was going
to see this time log.
The other aspect of the log is you had to write down your
major goals for the day and rank them in order of priority.
Then you had to put a priority label on each activity that
you logged from 1-4. With 1 being important and urgent, and
4 being something that was a complete waste of time.
Then I just wrote down the time, what I was doing, its
priority, and when I was finished with that activity. I
used a kind of shorthand technique with symbols to make the
data entry quicker.
Something very interesting happened. For the first time in
my life I felt, I was in a race to get things done. I
wanted to get them done faster than the time I had allotted
for myself. I worked quickly and efficiently. I wasn't
letting interruptions get to me.
Never in my life did I have such a productive workday with
so many varied tasks and projects. I got many things done.
I felt great about myself.
I wish I had better news about the following days. They
were not as efficient. I even tried the time log on two
other occasions. However, I never completed it. When I was
wasting time, I didn't want to write it down. But I'm sure
I'll improve it the next time. That is the whole point of
the time log anyway. To show you where you need to improve.
Just doing these time logs taught me several things that
will help me save time in the future. One thing I learned
from this book was to avoid interruptions. I thought I was
good at that because I let my voicemail take all my calls
and I only called back when I was ready to call.
I encountered another interruption, however - email. I get
email constantly throughout the day and I'm very eager to
look at it as it comes in. I never realized it, but email
was constantly interrupting me and often it would lead me
to do things that weren't my highest priorities.
So now I've set my email program so that if I want to
check email I have to press a button manually. I used to
have it check my inbox automatically every minute for me.
The bottom line is that by using the Time Log, I got at
least two major benefits - it gets me to work faster
whenever I use it, and I discovered my areas of weakness.
Now, at least, I know the things that need improvement.
This article in no way does justice to the book, The Time
Trap. There are so many useful tips there. Even if you only
read a few chapters, you are bound to improve your time
management skills.
Better time management means earning more money. If you
are more productive, you are more valuable to your company,
or to your own business or practice. I'm sure if I stick
with the book, I'll improve my efficiency by at least 35%.
Along with that, my self-esteem will rise as well as I
begin to feel increasingly competent. I don't know about
you but I feel better about myself the more disciplined I
am towards achieving my goals. In addition, I'll be
reaching many more of those goals if I use my time better.
I rate, The Time Trap, by Alec Mackenzie a 5 out of 5
stars. Even if you love what you do, you may find that you
aren't using your time as wisely as you could. So go do
yourself a favor and try to improve your time management by
1% each month. By the end of the year, you will have made
great progress.

3. The Radiant Health Corner:
I want to point out to you some of the dangers of eating
grains. Many people think that grains are such a wonderful
food. Through personal experimentation, I've discovered
that eating grains made me lazy, moody and eventually put
me into a deep 6.5-year depression. The very first day I
reduced my grain intake and ate more raw foods, the
problems went away.
Humankind has only been eating grains for the last 10,000
years. 10,000 years are not enough time to evolve into
being able to eat grains. If you even believe in the faulty
theory of evolution.
I first read about the dangers of grains in, The Zone Diet
by Barry Sears. Apparently, if you study ancient cultures
you find that every single culture that emphasized grains
heavily had massive problems with tooth decay and gum
disease.
** You may not know this, but a sure sign of illness
throughout your body is Gum Disease.**
Once I stopped eating grains, I immediately experienced a
halt to my receding gum line and my gums got much tighter.
In fact, it got to the point where for a week they felt
uncomfortably tight. Then I got used to it. If my gums had
gotten any looser then maybe my teeth would have started
falling out one by one.
Please read this article from the Dr. Mercola newsletter
on the dangers of grains.
http://www.mercola.com/2002/oct/5/dangerous_grains.htm
Dr. Mercola has a great site. I don't agree with
everything he says. However, if you want to protect your
health he has unbelievable information at his website. He
does feel that eating more raw foods is important but he is
more into the Paleolithic or Caveman Diet.
Get High on Life Recipe:
Want to know a common food which, if you eat it in great
quantities, can make you feel like you are walking in
heaven and feel very peaceful? That food is lettuce. I mean
the dark leafy kinds of lettuce like Romaine and Spinach,
not Iceberg.
Anyway, I've had to make a switch in my diet recently.
I've been experiencing problems with what I believe to be
Candida. Therefore, I have had to drop my high intake of
sweet fruits. So instead, I've dramatically increased my
intake of vegetables and raw fats like sunflower seeds,
avocados, almonds, macadamia nuts, walnuts, etc.
I started having a large blended salad every morning. I
first learned about a blended salad in the best selling
book, Fit for Life. David Wolfe in his book, The Sunfood
Diet Success System, also mentions the amazing benefits of
eating many dark leafy vegetables. I highly recommend that
book if you want to learn how to do the raw food diet. To
learn more:
http://www.superbeing.com/sunfood.htm
Anyway, here is my Blended Salad Recipe: or you can call
it a Green Soup
Get out your blender or Vitamix. First, you need to put
the watery vegetables or non-sweet fruits into the blender.
The watery vegetables act like water. You need water to
make the blender work right.
I usually cut up two plum tomatoes. Then I add about a
half cucumber cut up. (By the way, these are actually
fruits from a biological standpoint.) Then I add some
stalks of celery, a clove of garlic, and one hot pepper.
Put in whatever ingredients you want -- just make sure to
put in the watery ones first.
Then I blend that mixture until it is liquefied. Next I
add up to a whole head of romaine lettuce and/or I also add
spinach to the mixture. Make a salad like this twice a day
and you'll soon start to notice amazing improvements in how
you feel.

30 minute telephone consultation on how to *** Motivate
Yourself *** into doing the raw food diet and to learn how
to do it properly. If you don't even know why you should do
the raw diet then please read this page for the now 35
Amazing Benefits. (Used to be only 33 benefits.)
http://www.superbeing.com/awesometechnique.htm
Maybe you just want to learn how to eat two meals a day
raw and still be able to go out to dinner at your favorite
restaurants. Or maybe you have tried to go 100% raw and
haven't been able to stick with it. I tried and failed 5
times, but now I know the mental and emotional secrets to
eating 100% raw and loving it. I don't feel like I'm
missing out on anything. On the contrary, if I were to eat
cooked food I'd equate it to smoking or poisoning myself.
